Buggy Town, with a courthouse square, a college and a lot of very mature street trees.
Barnesville is the Lamar County seat, northwest of Macon on the old road toward Atlanta. It built its name on buggy manufacturing in the late 1800s — it still calls itself Buggy Town — and today it's a college town as well, with Gordon State College and a handsome historic downtown.
A town with that much nineteenth-century building has nineteenth-century planting to match. The older residential streets around the square carry big mature street trees, water oaks and willow oaks among them, planted generations ago on lots that weren't laid out with eighty-foot canopies in mind. They're beautiful and they're at an age where interior decay is common while the crown still looks full.

"JC and his team took down 60 or so dead and dying eastern cedar trees between 30 and 50 feet tall. They cut, hauled and cleaned up all of the trees and under-brush in one day. I have used JC before and both times the work was excellent and his fees were very reasonable. He is my tree guy!!"

"JC and his crew did a great job getting the massive tree that fell during the storm. They were very helpful and worked hard to make sure myself and my neighbor were happy with the end results, and all of my property — trailers and fence — that were buried by the tree were protected while they worked. Will use JC's Tree Service again!"

What Barnesville and Lamar County property owners ask us most.
Worth having looked at rather than worried about. Water oaks and willow oaks of that generation commonly decay from the inside while the crown still looks full, so appearance from the street isn't a reliable guide. Mushrooms at the base, a hollow knock, shedding bark or big dead limbs are the things to call about.
Yes — it comes down in sections from the top rather than being felled, with anything over the house, the fence or the drive lowered on a rope. It takes longer than an open yard and the price reflects it, but nothing gets touched.
Yes, about forty-five minutes from Macon and inside our working area. Call with the address and JC will tell you how it fits the schedule.
We'll price grinding alongside the removal so you can decide. On an older in-town lot it's usually worth doing in the same visit.
