New houses, old pines. Kathleen has been building out fast, and the trees on those lots have been there a lot longer than the driveways.
Kathleen sits in the southern stretch of Houston County, below Warner Robins and west of Perry, and it has been one of the busiest building corridors in Middle Georgia for two decades. Subdivisions, schools and new construction have spread across what was pine timber and farmland, and the pace hasn't let up.
What that means for trees is a county full of lots where the house is twelve years old and the pines are sixty. Those trees were part of a managed stand before anybody put a road in — grown close together, tall and slender, braced by neighbors that aren't there any more. Houston County's flat sandy ground gives them wide shallow root plates rather than deep anchorage, so when the ground saturates and the wind picks up, they snap partway up the trunk and the top half travels.

"JC and his crew did a great job getting the massive tree that fell during the storm. They were very helpful and worked hard to make sure myself and my neighbor were happy with the end results, and all of my property — trailers and fence — that were buried by the tree were protected while they worked. Will use JC's Tree Service again!"

"The clean up after 7 tree removals was outstanding! It looked like there were never any trees there."

"JC and his team took down 60 or so dead and dying eastern cedar trees between 30 and 50 feet tall. They cut, hauled and cleaned up all of the trees and under-brush in one day. I have used JC before and both times the work was excellent and his fees were very reasonable. He is my tree guy!!"

Based thirty-five minutes north in Macon, working Kathleen, Bonaire, Perry, Warner Robins and the rest of Houston County.
What Kathleen property owners ask us most.
It's the shape of the tree and the shape of the roots. A loblolly carries nearly all its weight up in the crown on a long bare trunk, and on Houston County's sandy ground its root plate is wide and shallow rather than deep. Under enough wind load the trunk fails before the roots do — so the top half comes down forty or fifty feet from the base.
Usually fewer than people expect. JC will walk the yard and give you a straight read tree by tree — this one's a problem, this one's fine, this one I'd watch. We'd rather talk you out of two than sell you work you don't need.
Yes. Kathleen is about thirty-five minutes from us and it's a normal part of our Houston County week, along with Bonaire and Perry.
Yes, and it's much cheaper per stump than doing them one at a time — getting the machine to the property is most of what a single stump costs. If you've got several, have them counted together.
